He Forgot

This is a poem I wrote in my creative writing class.

He forgot how to be a man.
Somewhere along the way
He lost his character.
It was a pitiful fight.
He didn’t stand up for what was right.
His whole family was in disarray.

The fights did often occur.
He had so many flaws
To which he wouldn’t admit.
Pride, denial,
His wife’s lies he’d always acquit,
Just to name a bit.
And this was all because
He forgot how to be a man.
